Learning from the Ground Up - Delani Hopper-Moore
Member Monday Spotlight: Delani Hopper-Moore
For Delani Hopper-Moore, building a career in asphalt has been all about learning from the ground up.
Today, Delani is a Sales Representative with Louisiana Cat, where her role goes far beyond selling equipment. It’s about understanding her customers, solving problems, building relationships, and continuing to learn an industry that first caught her attention five years ago.
Delani was initially introduced to asphalt through the service side of Louisiana Cat. While she had grown up around dirt equipment, asphalt equipment was an entirely new world.
“Pavers, rollers, cold planers... you name it. After transitioning into sales and watching, learning, training, and selling asphalt equipment, I was eager to dive deeper into this niche industry!”
That willingness to learn has become one of Delani’s favorite parts of her career. By talking with customers and colleagues and hearing their different perspectives, she has gained a better understanding of how each piece of the industry comes together. That knowledge, in turn, helps her better serve the people she works with.
“As I learn more about customers in the industry, I can better serve their needs. Gaining a deeper understanding of the products also helps me share information effectively and continuously build trust.”
And trust is a big part of the job. While people may assume equipment sales is simply about making a sale, Delani says there is much more happening behind the scenes.
“My job isn't just about selling construction equipment. It is really about problem solving and relationship building. Every project is different, and I work closely with contractors and teams to find the right solutions, timelines, and equipment.”
That combination of strategy, collaboration, and connection is part of what makes the work so rewarding. It’s also what Delani has found through Women of Asphalt.
For her, WofA provides the opportunity to meet women from across North America who may work in different roles and places, but often share many of the same experiences.
“It is so fulfilling to meet and engage with women from all around North America. We all have similar experiences to share, despite very different surroundings. Hearing each perspective and learning what everyone does is so fun!”
From learning a completely new side of the equipment industry to building trusted relationships with customers and fellow women in asphalt, Delani’s journey is proof that you don’t have to know everything on day one. Sometimes, curiosity and a willingness to keep learning are exactly where a great career begins.
Her advice for someone considering taking that first step? “Go for it. There are so many options to find your passion!”
Building the Future
Delani’s story highlights just how many different career paths exist within the asphalt industry.
Sales may be her title, but her day-to-day work brings together technical knowledge, problem solving, customer service, strategy, and relationship building. By continuing to ask questions, learn from those around her, and better understand her customers, Delani is building both her expertise and her impact.
That same curiosity extends to her involvement with Women of Asphalt, where connecting with women from different backgrounds and roles gives her another opportunity to learn, share experiences, and grow.
Thank you, Delani, for being part of the Women of Asphalt community and for reminding us that there is always something new to learn in this industry! 💗
