 We’re excited to launch Member Monday, a new   Women of Asphalt series highlighting the   incredible individuals who make up our   community. Every other week, we’ll spotlight   members across the industry sharing their   stories, career journeys, and what drives them.

 First up: Cindy Powell, Senior Manager, Asphalt   Technology at Verde Resources, Inc.

Meet Cindy

How did you get started in the asphalt industry?
I came to the asphalt industry as a lab technician with zero prior knowledge at all. I was a restaurant owner prior to becoming a flexible pavement chef!

What do you enjoy most about your work?
I love the people in our industry, it’s like a family. I also love that the infrastructure we build makes quality of life better for everyone.

What advice would you give to someone considering a career in this industry?
Don’t hesitate to join us! There is something for everyone. It’s a diverse industry with so many career paths.

What does being part of Women of Asphalt mean to you?
I love that our industry not only supports women coming together, but truly encourages it. Some of the most influential voices in our industry are women, and it means so much to connect with them in a real and personal way.

What’s something people might be surprised to learn about your job?
When I get the opportunity to work in the lab, hands-on with hot (or cold) asphalt, that’s where I feel most at home and confident in my skills.

Cindy’s journey, from restaurant owner to asphalt leader, is a great reminder that there’s no one path into this industry, and there’s a place for everyone.
